Kings rolled past Turpin 48-14 on Friday, Oct. 16, in an Eastern Cincinnati Conference blowout that pushed the Knights above .500 heading into the regular-season finale.
Defensive lineman Jaylon Jones stood out. He finished with four tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles, earning a spot on WLWT's Friday Night Stars list for his performance against the Spartans.
The 34-point margin was Kings' most lopsided ECC victory of the season. The Knights entered the game at 4-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play, according to the Journal-News' Week 9 preview, needing a win to climb above .500. Turpin arrived at 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the ECC after a 63-60 shootout victory over Lebanon the week before.
Kings delivered on both sides of the ball. Jones' two forced fumbles disrupted Turpin's offense, which had put up 63 points against Lebanon just one week earlier.
The win improved Kings to 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the ECC with one regular-season game remaining. The Knights had built momentum with a 31-28 win over Milford in Week 8, according to the Journal-News preview, and the rout of Turpin continued that upward trajectory.
The result matters for the postseason picture. Ohio's regular season ends Oct. 25, with the OHSAA announcing playoff qualifiers Oct. 26 and regional first-round games set for Oct. 30, according to the OHSAA football playoff calendar. Kings need a strong Week 10 finish to bolster their positioning, especially in an ECC where Anderson has strengthened its hold on a top seed after going unbeaten in conference play.
Jones' Friday Night Stars nod put him alongside some of the region's top Week 9 performers, including Anderson quarterback Owen Scalf, who threw six touchdown passes in a 47-21 win over Winton Woods. Mason also made noise, stunning Middletown in Greater Miami Conference action, according to WLWT's recap.
Kings close the regular season in Week 10, with playoff qualifiers set to be announced Oct. 26.
