Middletown opened the season with losses to Elder (35-3) and Princeton (28-7) before rattling off wins over Fairfield, Oak Hills, Colerain and Sycamore. The Middies outscored those four opponents 117-41. The shutout loss to Lakota West interrupted the run, but Middletown bounced back against Lakota East.

The Comets will play on Barnitz Stadium's $750,000 synthetic turf field. Middletown head coach Kali Jones called the surface "phenomenal" after touring the field, the Journal-News reported.

Fans who cannot make the trip can watch the broadcast on the WE_ARE_MBC YouTube channel. Mason Sports Radio announced that James Froelich and Will Wyss will call the game.
