Mason's boys and girls cross country teams will race for a seventh consecutive Greater Miami Conference championship Saturday, Oct. 17, at Voice of America Park in West Chester.
The girls championship begins at 9 a.m., followed by the boys championship at 9:30 a.m. Open races follow at 10 and 10:30 a.m., with an awards ceremony at 11:10 a.m. Spectators must purchase tickets online in advance. No cash will be accepted at the gate, according to the GMC event page.
Both Mason programs swept the 2025 GMC titles for a sixth straight year, according to the MHS Chronicle. The boys posted a near-perfect 19-point team score. The girls edged a competitive field for their 14th conference title since 2010.
The boys enter Saturday's race with a reshaped roster. Caden Winship, who won the 2025 individual GMC championship and earned Conference Runner of the Year honors, graduated in the spring. So did Luke Berkebile, Carson Wyss and Luke Young. All four earned All-Conference honors.
Seniors Eligh Amshoff and Paras Yadav and junior Isaac Mecum return after earning All-Conference recognition in 2025. The Comets showed early-season form at the Sycamore Stoneberger Invitational on Sept. 24, scoring 39 points to take first, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The girls return a deep senior class from last season's championship squad. Atalia Hawkins, Auna Korostyshevsky, Emily Moran and Mitalee Godbole all earned All-Conference honors as juniors in 2025. Eva Mathur, now a junior, also returns after her All-Conference sophomore season. The girls won the Stoneberger Invitational with a score of 33 on Sept. 24, according to the Enquirer.
Head coach Tim Pitcher, named GMC Coach of the Year in 2025, has spoken about the challenge of sustaining dominance. "You have got to keep working hard because there are plenty of people and teams looking to knock us off," Pitcher told the MHS Chronicle in a November 2025 feature on the program's dynasty.
After the conference meet, the OHSAA postseason begins. The Mason athletics schedule lists the regional championship on Saturday, Oct. 31, and the state championship on Saturday, Nov. 7.
