Drivers along a commercial corridor near the I-71 interchange regained two-way traffic on Snider Road on Monday, July 13, as construction crews shifted to a new phase of the $18.6 million Fields-Ertel Road Widening Project.
The traffic switch, announced Friday, July 10, by the Warren County Engineer's Office, moved drivers on Snider Road between Fields-Ertel Road and Cross Meadow Drive onto the newly constructed west side of the roadway. That reopened two-way travel on the segment for the first time since June 1, when the road was restricted to northbound-only traffic so crews could build the west-side lanes.
With that work complete, contractor John R. Jurgensen Company can now widen the east side of Snider Road.
A separate switch took effect the same day on Fields-Ertel Road between Cross Pond Drive and Snider Road, shifting traffic to the newly built north side so crews can widen the south side. The eastbound-only restriction remains in place on that stretch. Properties between Cross Pond Drive and Snider Road can only be accessed heading east, and the westbound lane restriction applies between addresses 8209 and 8290 Fields-Ertel Road.
Westbound drivers on Fields-Ertel Road must continue using the posted detour: Fields-Ertel Road to Butler-Warren Road to Irwin-Simpson Road to Snider Road.
What changed
The June 1 restrictions had funneled Snider Road traffic in one direction for more than six weeks. The July 13 switch restores normal two-way flow on Snider Road while keeping the eastbound-only limit on Fields-Ertel Road. Two-way flow on Snider Road restores access from both directions to businesses near the Fields-Ertel/I-71 interchange.
