A Carter Lumber employee was shot and killed inside the company's door manufacturing facility on Reading Road in Mason on Wednesday, July 22. David Cohen, 34, a Hamilton man and former Carter Lumber employee, was arrested and charged with murder.
The victim was identified Thursday by the Warren County Coroner as Vincent Stoetzel, 29, of Cincinnati. He was a father.
Mason police said officers were dispatched to the facility just before 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found Stoetzel dead inside one of the warehouses.
According to a complaint filed in Mason Municipal Court, Cohen shot Stoetzel approximately 22 times inside the warehouse. Cohen then drove away from the scene. He was arrested after a manhunt spanning multiple counties.
Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell announced the murder charge Wednesday evening. Cohen was scheduled for arraignment at Mason Municipal Court on Thursday, July 23, at 10 a.m.
Carter Lumber confirmed the shooting took place at its door manufacturing facility in Mason. In a written statement released Wednesday, the company expressed condolences to Stoetzel's family and coworkers and said it is focused on supporting those affected. The company said it is cooperating with the investigation but declined to provide additional details, citing the active case.
