Two of Kings Island's signature roller coasters are shut down after a fatal incident at a sister park in Georgia.

Six Flags confirmed that Orion and Diamondback at the Mason amusement park are temporarily closed as part of a company-wide precautionary shutdown of similar rides, FOX19 first reported.

No reopening timeline has been announced.

The closures follow the death of one person and injuries to four others on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Mableton, Georgia. Cobb County police said officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 3:58 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Detectives from the department's Major Crimes Unit are investigating.

Eyewitnesses told reporters a man fell from a car on the Goliath and hit the ride several times. Police have not confirmed a cause. The victim's identity has not been released.

Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King said state inspectors were dispatched to the park to examine equipment and work with Cobb County officials.

A Six Flags spokesperson said the company temporarily closed similar attractions across its parks and called guest and employee safety a top priority. The company did not specify what the closed rides have in common.

Both Orion and Diamondback were built by Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard, the same manufacturer behind the Goliath coaster in Georgia. The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Kings Island's B&M coasters include traditional seatbelts as part of their restraint systems. The Georgia Goliath uses a clamshell-style lap bar with no seatbelts.

Diamondback opened in 2009 and added seatbelts in 2014. Orion, one of only seven giga coasters in the world, debuted in 2020 with a 300-foot drop and speeds up to 91 mph.

The closures come during Kings Island's fall Halloween Haunt season, which runs select nights through Oct. 31. Both Orion and Diamondback are featured as night rides during the event.

Kings Island, located at 6300 Kings Island Dr. in Mason, is owned by Six Flags. The precautionary shutdowns extend beyond Mason. Cleveland.com reported that closed rides also include Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America in Illinois, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and coasters at parks in California, North Carolina and Ontario.

Kings Island has not issued a park-specific statement beyond the company-wide response.
