The Mason Comets boys soccer team lost 2-0 to St. Xavier on Saturday, Sept. 19, in a physical road match at RDI Stadium.

The 7 p.m. kickoff produced a tight, scoreless first half. Mason's defense kept the Bombers off the board through 45 minutes, and St. Xavier had a late first-half goal pulled back on an offside call. The teams went to halftime locked at 0-0.

The second half was a different story.

St. Xavier broke through in the 58th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Bombers added a second goal in the 69th minute, and Mason could not find an answer over the final 11 minutes.

Mason Sports Radio, the student-run broadcast team at Mason High School, covered the match live on the WE ARE MBC YouTube channel. Student broadcasters James Froelich and Jacob Kammerman called the action.

The loss to St. Xavier carries extra weight given the teams' recent history. Mason won the Greater Miami Conference championship in 2025, finishing that regular season undefeated with two ties, one against St. Xavier and one against Sycamore. That title was the program's seventh in eight years and 12th overall since joining the GMC in 2007, according to the MHS Chronicle.

No post-game comments from Mason's coaching staff were available.

Mason returns home Tuesday, Sept. 22, to host Lakota West in GMC play. The Comets then travel to Lakota East on Thursday, Oct. 1, before hosting Walnut Hills on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Senior Night is Thursday, Oct. 8, at home against Hamilton. Mason closes the regular-season stretch with a trip to Sycamore on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
