Mason residents can get CPR and AED certified at Fire Station 51 on Saturday, August 1, as part of the Mason Fire Department's monthly training program.
The four-hour session runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the station, located at 4420 Mason Montgomery Road. Registration is required and available online through the Mason Community Center's WebTrac system at ohmasonccweb.myvscloud.com.
The City of Mason announced the upcoming class on Monday, July 20, directing residents to register through the online portal. The program runs on the first Saturday of every month, year-round.
Pricing note
In a January 2026 post, the City of Mason described the training as free for Mason residents and Mason Community Center Premier members. Pricing language has varied in subsequent city announcements throughout 2026, and the July 20 post did not specify cost. Residents should confirm pricing when registering online.
Why bystander CPR matters locally
More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals each year in the United States, according to the American Heart Association. CPR performed immediately can double or triple a person's chance of survival. More than 70% of those cardiac arrests happen in homes.
Ohio ranks third worst in the nation for bystander CPR rates, with only 34% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims receiving bystander CPR in 2023, compared to 41% nationally, according to American Heart Association data reported by Spectrum News in February 2025.
Deerfield Township alternative
Deerfield Township Fire Rescue runs a separate CPR and First Aid certification program, coordinated by Lt. Andy Burwinkel. Those classes are held quarterly rather than monthly and are free for Township residents. Pre-registration is required, as class sizes are limited.
