Mason's girls volleyball team fell behind early against Oak Hills on Wednesday, Sept. 16, then won three straight sets to take the Greater Miami Conference match 3-1.

Oak Hills grabbed the opening set 25-23 in a tight battle. The Comets answered with set wins of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-17 to put away the Highlanders and claim their sixth GMC victory of the 2026 season, according to Mason Sports Radio on X.

The comeback started in the second set. Ella Groff closed it out with a serve as Mason evened the match at 1-1. Groff, a Comets player who wears jersey No. 13, was among the Mason athletes featured in Cincinnati Enquirer coverage of the team's Sept. 12 match at Fenwick.

From there, head coach Eric Schatzle's squad took control. Mason dominated the third set 25-14, holding Oak Hills to its lowest point total of the night. The Comets then closed the match with a 25-17 fourth-set win.

The match was live-streamed on YouTube through the student-run Mason Broadcasting Channel.

The victory adds to a conference winning streak that has defined the program for more than a decade. Mason reached 100 consecutive GMC victories on Sept. 8, a milestone the Cincinnati Enquirer highlighted as a landmark for Greater Cincinnati volleyball. The Comets' last conference loss came against Lakota East on Sept. 15, 2015.

By October 2025, Mason had posted 10 consecutive unbeaten GMC seasons, a run the MHS Chronicle called "unmatched in league history." Wednesday's result keeps that streak rolling into an 11th season.

The Comets did absorb a non-conference loss on Sept. 12, when Fenwick topped Mason in the "Volley under the Lights" match. The GMC result four days later showed the team bounced back where it counts in the conference standings.

Mason's next scheduled GMC opponent had not been confirmed as of Thursday.
