Mason's girls volleyball team dropped the second set but rallied to beat Mercy McAuley 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Mason High School.

The Comets took the opening set 25-18, but the Wolves answered with a 25-19 win in the second to level the match at one apiece. Mason responded by winning the third set 25-16, its widest margin of the night, before holding off Mercy McAuley 25-23 in a tighter fourth to clinch the nonconference victory.

The fourth set was the closest of the match.

Mason entered the contest ranked No. 9 in Ohio Division I and No. 8 in the Cincinnati area, according to MaxPreps. The Comets carried an 11-4 overall record and a 6-0 mark in the Greater Miami Conference into the contest. Mercy McAuley, a Greater Girls Catholic League (GGCL) program, came in at 2-14 overall and 0-7 in its own conference.

The Wolves were led on the season by outside hitter Macie Crawford with 90 kills, defensive specialist Aubrey Blanton with 187 digs and 18 aces, and setter Ava Thelen with 407 assists entering the match, per MaxPreps.

The win adds to a nonconference stretch that has included matchups against Seton, Ursuline Academy, Gilmour Academy, Olentangy Orange and Olentangy Liberty, according to Sports Illustrated High School. Junior middle blocker Avery Brannon had recorded 53 kills, 14 blocks and a GMC-leading 16 aces as of that early-September report.

Mason's GMC dominance continues to stand out. The program entered 2026 riding 10 consecutive conference titles and a 43-0 league record dating to a loss to Lakota East on Sept. 15, 2015, according to the MHS Chronicle. This season's 6-0 conference start keeps that streak intact.
