Warren County's technology director will pitch artificial intelligence tools and an encrypted radio system to the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Gary Estes, director of technology services, is scheduled to present at 9:30 a.m. on the county's use of the password manager 1Password, AI platforms, and encrypting the county radio system, according to the meeting agenda. No vendors or costs are listed. Commissioners Tom Grossmann, Shannon Jones and David Young will hear the presentation at 406 Justice Drive in Lebanon.
The radio discussion follows a $122,000 increase the commissioners approved in May for a Motorola Solutions radio upgrade through the technology services department.
The consent agenda also includes a new agreement with CBTS Technology Solutions on behalf of the technology services department and a $5,108 software renewal with CBTS for a tape backup system.
2027 benefits renewal
Before the technology presentation, Risk and Benefits Manager Tammy Whitaker is set to brief commissioners at 9:05 a.m. on the 2027 benefits renewal. The presentation comes one day before Whitaker's retirement takes effect Sept. 30. Commissioners accepted her resignation in July.
Fiscal Director Lisa Dickerson told commissioners Sept. 1 that three high-cost claimants pushed 2026 healthcare claims roughly $1.5 million over budget. Dickerson said an operational transfer of about $5 million was needed to cover the shortfall and actuary funds required by law. Tuesday's consent agenda includes a supplemental appropriation into the commissioners' fund and an operational transfer into the benefits fund.
Union Township rezoning hearing
At 10 a.m., commissioners will open a public hearing on a request by Tyler Holden of Blue Rock Properties LLC to rezone about 30 acres in Union Township. The application would shift the land from a Mixed Use Neighborhood zone to a Light Industrial Manufacturing zone with a Planned Unit Development. Commissioners set the hearing at their Sept. 15 meeting. The agenda packet does not include a staff recommendation or the specific parcel location.
The board will also enter executive session at 11 a.m. to discuss the appointment, employment or promotion of a public employee under Ohio Revised Code 121.22(G)(1).
The rezoning public hearing is open to residents, and the full meeting can be streamed live on the Warren County Board of Commissioners YouTube channel.
