Mason's boys soccer team has no postseason bracket after the OHSAA postponed the Division I tournament draw scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11.

The delay affects boys Division I and Division II statewide. Mason competes in Division I.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) pulled the draws because of a court fight over one school. Columbus St. Charles won an injunction Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Franklin County Common Pleas Court to compete in Division I after the OHSAA had placed the school in Division II at the start of the year, the Journal-News reported.

St. Charles had missed the deadline to file an opt-up form. The school acknowledged during the summer that a miscommunication in its athletic department resulted in the paperwork never being submitted.

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey M. Brown sided with the students, writing that they should not be punished for the errors of adults in the school's athletic department, according to a Columbus Dispatch report.

The OHSAA is filing an emergency appeal in the 10th District Court of Appeals in Columbus. OHSAA media relations director Tim Stried told the Dispatch on Thursday, Oct. 8, that a hearing could come as soon as Tuesday, Oct. 13, or Wednesday, Oct. 14.

"It is definitely an extreme situation," Stried said. "But we decided we need to fight this, and the only way to do that at this point in time is to delay the draws."

The Division I and II draws will not take place until the appeal is settled. No rescheduled date has been announced.

The delay does not touch the rest of the tournament calendar. Boys Division III, IV and V draws, along with all five girls divisions, proceeded as scheduled on Sunday, Oct. 11. Mason's girls soccer team earned the No. 2 seed in the Division I draw and will open tournament play against No. 18 Hamilton on Monday, Oct. 26.

Sectional tournament games across all divisions are still set to begin Monday, Oct. 19, according to the OHSAA soccer calendar. That leaves a narrow window for the Division I and II brackets to be finalized.

Mason, coached by Garrett Szabo, closes the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Sycamore. The Comets played to a 1-1 draw with Walnut Hills on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and were scheduled to host Hamilton for Senior Night on Thursday, Oct. 8.
