Repair crews responded to a water main break Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 2636 Fields-Ertel Road in Deerfield Township, a stretch of road already torn up by the $18.6 million widening project that has rerouted traffic since October 2024.

Warren County Water announced the break on its official X account and confirmed no boil-water advisory was required. The utility asked drivers to use caution in the area while crews worked.

The break is the third Warren County Water has reported in roughly a week. A separate main broke on King Avenue in Deerfield Township on Sunday, Aug. 2, and another failed on Hendrickson Road on July 28.

Construction zone complicates access

The 2636 Fields-Ertel address sits inside the active construction zone of the Fields-Ertel Road Widening Project, which is converting the road from two lanes to five between Snider Road and Wilkens Boulevard. The John R. Jurgensen Company holds the contract at a bid of $18,611,588.

As we reported July 16, a traffic switch that took effect July 13 shifted vehicles to the newly built north side of Fields-Ertel between Cross Pond Drive and Snider Road so crews could widen the south side. The eastbound-only restriction remains in place on that stretch, meaning westbound drivers must follow the posted detour through Butler-Warren Road, Irwin-Simpson Road and Snider Road.

Warren County Water has not posted a follow-up confirming the repair is complete. Residents near 2636 Fields-Ertel Road should monitor the utility's X account (@warrenco_water) for updates.

The widening project, funded by the Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant, the Ohio Public Works Commission, Deerfield Township trustees and Symmes Township trustees, began in October 2024 and was originally projected for completion in October 2026.
