A water main broke Friday, Sept. 25, on Hunter Green Drive in Deerfield Township, cutting water service to at least eight streets.
Warren County Water and Sewer Department said on X that the break affected addresses at 6492–6571 Hunter Green Drive along with Hedgewood Circle, Ivy Grove Place, Brook Farm Court, Plum Field Court, Rosedale Court, Plantation Drive and Field Stone Place. Crews were on site, and the department said a boil water advisory was not anticipated.
The break is at least the ninth to hit Deerfield Township since late May.
As we reported Sept. 15, seven breaks had already been documented: Halyard and North Harbor on May 24, Saddleback on June 9, Rosemont and Rosebrook on June 23, Erin Court and White Pine on July 1, Bowline on July 4, Farmfield and Fox Run on Sept. 9, and Carriagegate Lane and Sablegate Lane on Sept. 14. A break on Blackbird Place, Mallard Court and Owlwood Drive followed on Sept. 20. None required a boil advisory.
Warren County Water director Chris Brausch told Axios Cincinnati on Thursday, Sept. 24, one day before the Hunter Green break, that the department had not seen a major departure from normal break rates. "We haven't seen a huge spike," Brausch said.
Axios reported that officials cited multiple possible causes, including aging infrastructure, pressure surges from closing hydrants or valves too quickly, underground construction and shifting ground. The county spends money each year replacing aging water lines, including stretches around State Route 48 and Kings Mills, according to the report.
Separately, Deerfield Township and Warren County are pursuing a project to replace roughly 3,100 linear feet of water main in the Greenfields neighborhood along Fields Drive and Green Place. That project targets Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) funding for fiscal year 2028. The total cost had not been disclosed as of a July 17 report.
At a Sept. 1 commissioners meeting, Brausch proposed updating the department's customer reimbursement policy to cover damage from water main breaks, not just sewer incidents. Commissioners that day also approved reimbursing Deerfield Township homeowner Susan McDaniel up to $16,287 for property damage from a water main break at 2520 Rose Road in September 2025, after the county's insurance carrier denied her claim. Commissioners asked for more time to review the broader policy proposal with legal counsel. No follow-up date had been announced as of Sept. 15.
