A woman was shot and a man barricaded himself inside a home in the 1400 block of Windward Drive on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 18, triggering a multi-hour SWAT standoff that ended with the suspect in custody.

Jarrett Buttrey, 27, whose address is listed as the Windward Drive home, was booked into the Warren County Jail at 11:21 p.m. on charges of felonious assault and causing harm to an animal, according to Warren County jail records reported by Fox 19. He is being held on a $101,500 bond.

Buttrey is scheduled to be arraigned at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Mason Municipal Court.

Mason police responded to a domestic violence call on Windward Drive, off Butler Warren Road, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. Officers found a woman who had been shot inside the home, according to Mason Police Chief Levi Wells. She was treated on scene and transported to UC West Chester Hospital. Police have not released her condition or identity.

After the woman was taken to the hospital, Buttrey barricaded himself inside the residence. The Warren County Tactical Response Unit responded and negotiated with him for several hours before he surrendered without further incident, Wells said.

No officers were injured.

"This is the last thing you would expect to happen in this neighborhood, for sure," Austin Waters, a nearby resident, told WLWT.

Wells said he could not confirm what led to the shooting or the relationship between Buttrey and the victim. The connection between the incident and the animal cruelty charge has also not been explained by police.
