The Mason Comets boys soccer team beat Upper Arlington 2-1 on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Mason Multi-Purpose Field.
The win came in the first half of a soccer doubleheader at the field, with the Mason girls team scheduled to host the Seton Saints at 7 p.m. No result from the girls game was available as of Sunday, Aug. 30.
Individual goal scorers for the boys' 2-1 victory were not released. Mason Sports Radio confirmed the result on X and posted game photos taken by Nick Amaral.
The Upper Arlington game was Mason's fourth of the fall. The boys' schedule lists earlier road games at Milford on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Centerville on Saturday, Aug. 22, and at Princeton on Tuesday, Aug. 25, though results from those contests were not confirmed.
The win extends a run of Greater Miami Conference (GMC) dominance for the program. Mason claimed its seventh GMC title in eight years during the 2025 season, finishing undefeated in regular-season play with two ties, according to the MHS Chronicle. It was the program's 12th conference championship since joining the GMC in 2007.
Head coach Garrett Szabo guided the Comets through significant roster turnover during the 2025 season after Cincinnati United Premier's move into the MLS Next league pulled several players away from the high school program. Speaking to the MHS Chronicle in October 2025, Szabo said the changes forced a shift in style.
"The changes have made us a more well-rounded team, and it shows on the scoresheet … We're playing together, and it's paying off," Szabo said at the time.
The girls team entered Saturday's doubleheader at 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in GMC play, according to Cincinnati.com. That record included an 8-0 rout of Princeton on Tuesday, Aug. 25, with Wiethe and Anderson each scoring twice. Evans, Hommel, Kim and Scherz added goals. Goalkeeper Vick recorded two saves in the shutout.
Both games Saturday were broadcast live on the Mason Broadcasting Company YouTube channel. James Froelich and Will Wyss called the boys game.
The boys return to Mason Multi-Purpose Field on Thursday, Sept. 3, to host Colerain, then travel to Archbishop Moeller on Saturday, Sept. 5. The girls team visits St. Ursula on Monday, Aug. 31.
