Mason residents who want to know what to expect during a traffic stop or other encounter with police can sign up for an evening workshop later this month.
The Mason Police Department's "Norms of Policing" Safety Workshop is set for Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mason Community Center, 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road, in Meeting Rooms 171 and 172. The program is open to anyone 12 and older.
City officers will walk participants through what typically happens during a traffic stop, a crash scene or other law enforcement interaction, according to the city's registration page. Attendees will learn practical tips on responding safely, communicating effectively and navigating those situations with less anxiety.
The City of Mason said on X on Friday, Aug. 7, that interactions with law enforcement can be stressful, and that the workshop is designed to build respectful exchanges between community members and officers.
Who should attend
The two-hour session is geared toward residents who may feel uncertain about what officers expect during routine encounters. Because the age range starts at 12, parents can bring teenagers who are approaching driving age or who simply want to understand their rights and responsibilities during a police interaction.
Police Chief Levi Wells oversees the department hosting the workshop.

Residents can sign up online through the Mason Community Center's WebTrac portal or by calling (513) 229-8555. Both open and premier registration are accepted.
The workshop is part of the Mason Community Center's Safety Workshops series. The series also includes a PROTECT: Women's Self Defense class, a two-hour session covering home, vehicle and personal safety with hands-on techniques.
