Mason quarterback Alex Nagel earned a spot among five finalists for WLWT's Week 2 Primetime Performer award after rushing for 189 yards and four touchdowns against Sycamore on Aug. 28.

The junior carried 19 times, averaging 9.9 yards per carry with a long run of 49 yards. He accounted for four of Mason's six rushing touchdowns as the Comets piled up 319 yards on the ground in a 43-24 win.

The Primetime Performer is a fan-voted weekly honor recognizing the top individual performance in Greater Cincinnati high school football. Nagel shared the ballot with Campbell County quarterback Xander Guy, Deer Park defensive back Morgan Brown and CHCA linebacker Owen Clary. Milford quarterback Aiden Wehrum won the award.

The nomination followed a bounce-back week for head coach Brian Castner's squad. Mason fell to Springboro 33-0 in the Aug. 21 season opener before responding with its highest-scoring game of the year against Sycamore, as we reported Aug. 29.

Lakota West, coming off a 48-18 win over Lakota East, travels to Mason for the Comets' home opener in Week 3.
