Mason's school board will vote Tuesday, Aug. 18, on hiring a Columbus-area leadership firm to review the district's athletic programs, one of more than a dozen action items as the 2026-2027 school year gets underway.
The Focus 3 Comprehensive Athletic Program Review tops the Superintendent's Recommendations on the board's posted agenda. Focus 3 is a leadership development and culture training organization that works with school athletic programs on behavior systems. No contract cost is listed. The Comets have won the Greater Miami Conference All-Sports Trophy every year since 2007.
The board will also approve 2026-2027 staff handbooks. The school year opened with a staggered start Aug. 13-14, and all students attended together for the first time Monday, Aug. 17, as we reported on the district's back-to-school preparations.
Service agreements
Nine service agreements are on the consent agenda, including contracts with Elite Kids Therapy, BrightStar Care, Maxim Healthcare, Best Point, Warren County ESC and Hamilton County ESC-St. Susanna. Technology renewals include Avaya support and PowerSchool Safe Arrival/School Messenger. A Scioto Services maintenance agreement rounds out the list.
Federal grants hearing and financial forecast
A public hearing on federal grants opens at 6:55 p.m., five minutes before the regular session reconvenes at 7 p.m. Treasurer Shaun Bevan will present the General Fund Report and Investment Report for June 2026, along with a financial forecast and its underlying assumptions. No figures have been released ahead of the meeting.
The agenda also includes a first reading of new board policies and elections for Ohio School Boards Association delegate and alternate. Specific policy titles were not listed.
Who's at the table
Board President Ian Orr presides over the five-member board, which includes Vice President Matt Steele and members Desiree Batsche, Charles Galvin and Danielle Tymitz. Superintendent Jonathan Cooper leads the district's executive team.
The work and executive session begins at 5 p.m. The regular session is open to the public at 7 p.m. at Mason High School, 6100 South Mason-Montgomery Road.
