A new Mitsubishi Electric subsidiary will bring 180 jobs and a $30 million investment to Mason after establishing operations on the company's long-running Bethany Road campus.

MEHITS US, Inc., formed in collaboration with Italy-based Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems S.p.A., is occupying 154,000 square feet of space for advanced manufacturing and a technology laboratory. The facility will produce industrial air conditioning and IT cooling equipment, with production scheduled to begin in April 2027, according to a Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announcement on July 30.

The City of Mason Economic Development office highlighted the investment on Tuesday, Aug. 18, calling it a foreign direct investment that adds to the Mitsubishi campus adjacent to Mason's R&D Park.

The $30 million will renovate and repurpose part of a production facility previously operated by Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc. The campus dates to 1988. Mitsubishi Electric Manufacturing Cincinnati made its first deliveries there that July, and the site has expanded eight times since.

"Our Mason, Ohio, location has been and will remain an important North American manufacturing hub for Mitsubishi Electric," Mike Corbo, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric US Holdings, Inc., said in the JobsOhio announcement on July 27. "We are grateful for our long-standing relationship with the City of Mason and Ohio, who have been instrumental in our eight expansions over the past three decades."

Mason City Council approved a 15-year Community Reinvestment Area tax abatement for the project at its July 13 meeting, based on future metrics for jobs and payroll. JobsOhio authorized a separate 1.682 percent, nine-year Job Creation Tax Credit on July 27.

Mason City Manager Eric Hansen said in the announcement that the facility's location next to the R&D Park offers opportunities for product innovation and campus integration. Economic Development Director Michele Blair said Mason's established foreign direct investment landscape and long-term partnership with Japanese leadership were factors in landing the project.

Kevin Donnelly, vice president of project management at REDI Cincinnati, said in the announcement that the 180 new jobs highlight the strength of the region's $33 billion advanced manufacturing sector.

The company plans to provide customized engineering, factory testing and local service for cooling products throughout the U.S. Specific job types, wage ranges and a hiring timeline have not yet been announced. Production is set to begin in April 2027.
